History is possibly preparing to repeat itself here in Greenville NC.

Back in 1999 when Eastern NC was hit with Hurricane Floyd ( and Dennis just prior) -"The Flood of The Century ". The water was also documented as a 500 yr flood level in some parts of our region. I was living here during that time and experienced it first hand to understand the urgency and threat it posed as the Tar River crested and flooded alot of Eastern NC. There were 35 deaths, and it left thousands without a home here in Pitt County .
It took a community to come together to not only lift our spirits but to lend a hand to survive the following two weeks of being without water or power.
Hurricane Matthew 2016 passed our coast yesterday and all of last night, bringing flooding rain to an already saturated terrain. The Tar River is full, the crest is yet to come. It is a very valid opinion that destruction similar or worse than 1999 is in our near future.
Pray for safety. Pray for people to use common sense.
Follow Curfew. Respect our utility workers and first responders.
Our first reported fatality was last night as a woman drove her car into flooded roadway and drowned.
Roads are collapsing , dozens still impassible even though the sun is out, sky is clear and all appears to be done. It is not. Please stay alert and informed.
Our river will be cresting and flooding is a guarantee.
Stay alert to warnings and evacuations. Please care for your pets, livestock and neighbors in need.
This is a community known for coming together for the better of the whole. Now is our time to show the nation our strengths..this will be a televised event as it was in 1999.
I write this to assure you that warnings are not to be taken lightly. I have been through this to share my thoughts on this current situation. Please be safe.
