WaCanId Bicycle Ride and Real Estate - Final Day
September 17, 2016 Day 6 and our final day of the Rotary Sponsored WaCanId International Selkirk Loop Bicycle Ride begins, from Creston BC with forecasts of possible rain before our actual finish in, what was our starting point only a few days past, Sandpoint Idaho. Today's 74 miles and 2,820 will complete our 371 mile, with 22,530' climbed, journey.
It is but a few miles from the US Border we begin picking up light sprinkles, with dark ominous clouds showing themselves south in the direction of our lunch stop at Bonners Ferry Idaho.

By the time we reach the border it is obvious today's ride to the finish will be wet and cold. All part of the adventure in my mind for I started with the mind set of finishing no matter the circumstances.
The rest stop at the junction of 1 and Highway 95 proves delightful because of the volunteers. Wrapped in blankets they are hanging in there for us despite the rain, wind and cold. Bonners Ferry Rotary follows suit, of the previous clubs,
and serves a wonderful hot lunch of spaghetti with salad and toasted garlic bread. By now drenched no matter the clothing it is difficult not to stay and enjoy the warm food, dry, and live music.
Getting back on the bike now becomes a state of mind, rather than enjoying the final 30 miles, in order to complete this short distance to the starting point of Sandpoint Idaho. Strong head winds create hills and difficult riding that normally would not exist. The shoulder along the highway now seems too small with the limited visibility, and cars, trailers, and semi trucks send torrents of water over a rider as they pass.
Today's ride sees about half of the riders stop, load their bikes on a SAG vehicle and be shuttled to Sandpoint Idaho. I do not criticize nor hold any less respect for these riders for I know first hand of the miles behind us all and the challenges in having got this far. While for most this was meant as a ride for enjoyment to me it was meant as much more, and TO BE enjoyed.
I stayed my bike even though many times being asked, by SAG, if I needed a ride in. Final rest stop had folded up and called it a day long ago. Topping a final small hill just before coming to the finishing few miles of Sandpoint bike paths I could not help but let out a laugh of pleasure and satisfaction. I was going to finish this ride. Gearing down on the path I slowed to enjoy the rain and wind as I rode next to Sandcreek, on the bike path, of which I had walked many times but saw much differently on this day.
Last to start and last to finish. It mattered not in the least. I was filled with a great sense of accomplishment. This 6 day journey, now finished, had actually started about 1 year prior with a dream, a goal, and a commitment.
And how did I relate WaCanId day 6 to Real Estate? Sometimes the toughest part of a set goal is the last little bit. Our commitment is what must take us to the finish, desired accomplishment, or set goal. Be it personal or business. How many times have we heard that we must try just a bit longer, not give up, because SUCCESS may be just ahead?
This goal of mine was made complete with my extra efforts. mindset and determination to finish what I had started. no matter the obstacles presented. I felt the difference in my attitude, and confidence, towards business goals almost immediately. Do we not also hear many times over that 'One Success' leads to many more?
