At a recent sales event, a group of realtors were wearing shirts that said, "Enjoy the Grind". The grind being the daily task of prospecting for leads and listings. I have been doing it for years and many times it can be a frustrating and grueling process as people pick up the phone and yell at us, curse at us and often hang up. We chalk it up as part of the business and then one day something happened which changed everything for me.
I am making my calls in the early am. I reach a man who said I was about his 200th call that day and he had hung up on everyone until my call. Call it serendipity or skill, but we got into a conversation about why his property did not sell and then we ended the call as he was driving his son back from college. A few days later, I followed up with him. Circumstances changed and he had changed his mind about selling his property for now. We got into a great conversation and these conversations continued for hours on end for weeks until we decided to meet.
Before I meet anyone, I check them out through social media. Many times someone's photo comes up on our devices once we input their mobile number. Nice looking guy...thinking ...hmmmmm.... and then D day comes when we decide to meet face to face. He is a tech guy and was going to help me find the best deal on my new computer.
Having just arrived, was standing by the front door, a bit nervous, of one of my favorite retailers. Suddenly, this stranger comes from inside the store, right up next to me, grabs my hand and knows my name. He introduces himself and I am a bit shocked. What a surprise as their is no resemblence to the photograph on my phone. When I showed him the photo we both laughed. He thought he was better looking and he was. It appears that he had arrived earlier and picked out the items that he thought I would like and were cost effective.
I spent weeks researching the best computer to buy. I had an expensive brand in mind. Being an expert in his field he made some recommendations and within half an hour I had a new laptop, screen and software for the price I would have spent on one laptop. Hallelujah! Had I not made my calls that day this might not have ever happened.
I am grateful to have met him .
Life happens in curious ways. The point of my story is that while searching for business we can find an incredible new listing, buyer, friend, partner, soul mate.
With the attitude of living in the moment and being positive anything can happen. So make your calls today, cause ya never know, it can change your life!
There are no strangers here.
