How much time do you spend on your blog?

How much actual time do you spend on your blog weekly? Do you truly feel it is important? Do you enjoy blogging? Is the time spent, worth it? Do you consider yourself an addict?

I am still a newbie when it comes to blogging, but I can clearly see it's purpose in today's technology & for me, having a blog is important, I enjoy it, feel every minute I have put into my blog is very much worth the time & effort. Am I an addict? No, but I could be! It's a great way to share your voice and thoughts in a positive way to hundreds, even thousands of readers.

The amount of time spent on my blog varies, based on many factors such as: some days are busier than others, I might not have anything new to say, etc.  The more I read about blogs & platforms - I find myself looking into other ways to make my blog more appealing to others, wanting it to stand out, be informational, be worth reading.

I strive to have "repeat" readers visit my blog, so I search for relative ideas that I hope will attract readers to visit and return often. A blog is much more than a one time release publication!

What makes a blog valuable? I'm seeking advice from the pros here at ActiveRain - any tips or words of wisdom? Would you be willing to share how it has helped you grow your business?

Carla:  If you mean time spent on this Active Rain blog... probably from one and one half to two hours a day.  Some of it makes sense, and for me, some of it is therapy.  I am in the process of developing an outside blog... and once it gets done... much more... a great deal more of my time will be spent there... because it's purpose will totally be to increase my business.

Being an ex Lake Countian... it surprises me that there appear to be only two agents in Lake County... both women... who are active at all on Active Rain.  The West Side seems much more active as far as Active Rain is concerned.

Carla... do you have an outside blog ?  Or, are you planning one ?

Carla, I just went to look at your profile again to see if I could answer my own question about whether you had your own outside blog... and when I clicked on either link on www.CarlaHarbert.com nothing happened.  Maybe someone dropped another widget into the gizmo... or vicey versey... and broke the link ?  Take care...

I read alot and blog when I can. Putting out useful and relevant information is the most important rule to blogging in my opinion.

Hi Carla, I usually blog in the morning with my coffee, typically that is reading and commenting.  When I come home from work in the evenings I will do the same thing.  There have been days or weeks when I just have not felt like it and therefore I dont.  I think my attitude comes out and that could be scary. LOL.

Yes, my name is Audrey and I am a blogoholic!!

Karen:  yes, I am planning to build a blog outside of activerain. I bought a couple domain names, so that will be a project in the works soon. My website used to have the edge, bringing me loads of action...but that has slowed down. All fingers point the way to active blogging, so here I am, learning as I go. There are not too many agents actively blogging so far, from my area, so hopefully I will have an edge once again. I'd love for you to keep in touch with me, let me know how your other blog is coming along.

Oh, I will check out my link, thanks for letting me know that it's "broke"! - Carla

Carla,

I spend 1-2 hours per day blogging.  It's made my phone ring, and grown my business.  If you browse back through my posts, you'll find that the subject varies widely, but most of it is tied back to lending, real estate and best business practices.  And then there are humorous posts like She was afraid... to go out... in the water...

Welcome to the Rain!

Seems like the more time I spend  on AR the more leads, head my way.  By asking questions you are headed in the right direction. There are so many helpful souls here on AR.

I spend an hour at least per day (every day) on my outside blog wexzilla.com -

I have been on AR for a few months and spend a less time here as it is better for professional networking versus consumer contact.

I spend about 1/2 to 1 hour an evening.  Hard to do during the day.  Blogging takes a bit of time so I only do that a few times a week.  But the content does index and get some results from  searchers.  I have found it valuable for attracting business.

Come March I've been blogging for two years on ActiveRain...this was my first experience with blogging for business as well as networking nationwide with other professionals. I've closed transactions, made many friends and actually met many of them as well. I spend hours if I have time although I have managed to keep a balance of late so that I can tend to other obligations. Bottom line...this is the most rewarding experience overall I've had with my online presence. :)

P.S. It took a lot of hard work, patience, determination and consistency to progress. Keep it up!

Carla,

Blogging has created a handful of business opportunities, including a couple job offers.  I think real estate is the best match for blogging, because so many in local areas search for real estate based on their town or community.  For doctors or dentists, thats not always the case.

As a side suggestion, I noticed you mentioned creating an external blog and if you haven't made moves in that direction yet, I would highly recommend Wordpress as a platform for its flexibility and user experience (aka its far more user friendly than most of the alternatives)

Best of luck in your blogging journeys!  Feel free to ask me any questions you might have about the technology.

Take care,

Nathan

Carla, I found you on a different blog... you left a comment about knowing your community. Anyway I'm from Defiance Ohio and noticed you were too! We have some very best friends who live in Avon Lake so my husband and I are in the Cleveland area a few times a year, small world isn't it? You never know what you will learn on AR or who you might meet...

Happy selling, Karol

I added you as a associate.

I now spend about an hour a day and try to make it everyday because I am starting to get leads on a regular basis and I don't want that to change.
