Throwback Thursday: Raggedy Ann Halloween

When I was a kiddo my mom made most of my costumes. She was very good at it and most of the time very creative. However, I wasn't happy. I always complained because I wanted a store bought one.  All my friends had the Woolworth's cheap plastic costumes, with even cheaper masks with that one piece of elastic that didn't even survive a walk down the street! Oh, and you couldn't breath when you were wearing it!

Anyhoo, when I was 4, I was Raggedy Ann. The photo to the right was taken at my grandmother's house. Gotta love the red yarn wig, the red stockings and the black maryjanes!

Fast forward to the more recent past. I am once again Raggedy Ann with my 3 1/2 year old princess granddaughter. Hands down, one of my favorite Halloweens! Notice I have makeup this go around and the red and white striped socks like the REAL Raggedy Ann in the first photo. Once again, I've got the red yarn wig!

Happy Halloween!

Oh, how I do like this post. You were a beautiful Raggedy Ann then and you still are now! Your mother was very smart and thrifty. You are too! I love the smiles on your granddaughter's face and yours!

Happy Halloween!

Hi Donna... I was never a Raggedy Ann. In fact, I never even had one of those dolls. I was more the Madeleine doll "girl" and still have two of those.

That red yarn hair looks great on you.  I love your home made costume from years past.  I know what you mean though.  We always wanted what the other kids had.  I remember how bad I wanted braces on my teeth because all my friends had them.  My teeth were perfectly straight but that didn't matter.  I wanted the cool rubber bands in my mouth.
