Where to Find an Inexpensive Pumpkin for Halloween in Bristow, VA

One of my favorite seasons is fall.  I love seeing pumpkins and gourds around the shops and outdoor
markets.  When it comes to buying a pumpkin to carve for Halloween, where is These are the 16 and 14 pounders I got at Wegman's this year.the best place to go?  Depends on what you want.

If you are just looking for a pumpkin and not an experience, I recommend heading to Wegman's in Gainesville.  Don't poo-poo it as just a grocery store.  They have quite a nice set up in the front of the store with many pumpkins to choose from for only $5 a piece.  Pick any pumpkin, standard orange or a really funky one in a different color with bumps and all.  They are all $5 per pumpkin.  BJ's Wholesale Club in Gainesville has them for the same price, but for me, it's hard to pick a pumpkin out of a gigantic warehouse box.

If you are looking for more an experience for the kids, Yankey Farms in Bristow off of Vint Hill Road has a nice pumpkin patch where you can pick your own pumpkin.  There is also a trackless train ride and a corn maze.  The cost of the pumpkin is 59 cents per pound.  The same pumpkins I bought at Wegmans for $5 a piece would go for $8-$9 at Yankey Farms.  That's not including the activities.

WE have a farmer that is making the local markets upset.  He is selling pumpkins for $2-$4.  Stores paid that wholesale.

That is a good price.  I saw some pumpkins that have what looked like barnacles on them . . . real creepy!  Great for the season.  Your post reminds me I need to do my Halloween posts!

Well, there you go.  Spend a bit more and have a cool experience, or spend a bit less and have no memory to carry forward. I would totally vote for the pumpkin patch -- so much more sincere  : )

Dianne Goode --Did the pumpkin patch one year.  If I had kids, would do it again.  This year, the lower cost pumpkin was in order.

My favorite thing about pumpkins is the roasted pumpkin seeds with salt. I leave the carving to my husband or else I grab a black magic marker and draw on it. It's easier than carving. Is that the easy way out? Probably.

Great idea for a post. Sometimes it's about the experience and sometimes it's just about getting the pumpins!

Sharon Tara --The experience was a one time thing for me, but I imagine with little ones, it would be a yearly tradition.
