Dress Your Table For Fall and Halloween - Black Is The New Orange

A Simple Halloween Tablescape - Black Is The New Orange

What is a tablescape, you ask?

For those of you wondering what I'm talking about....

creating a tablescape is basically setting the table.

It includes the centerpiece, linens, glassware, and dishes. It's about creating visual appeal, whether it's for a formal dinner party or a casual luncheon.

I don't believe in spending a lot of money on decor, especially holiday decor. I prefer using what I have on hand, and with a little creativity the results can be quite impressive.

As a professional Home Stager, I believe holiday decorating while your home is listed for sale should be limited.

Ideally, I recommend decorating more "seasonal" rather than "holiday specific".

Here is an example of an easy Halloween inspired tablescape:

I started with a piece of burlap.

I folded it to the length I wanted, and simply scrunched it up to give it more dimension.

I placed a planter in the center to give one pumpkin more height.

Added some silk floral stems and candles.

I added little pumpkin candles, but real mini pumpkins are very inexpensive and would work well too.

I chose to paint my pumpkins black for a more dramatic look.

You could paint yours any color you want....or leave them natural.

Soup's On!

Add a tablecloth and some soup bowls and you are ready for a colorful

fall luncheon.

My pumpkins were painted with chalkboard paint, which means I can be artistic and add a jack-o-lantern face or Halloween message if I want to.

I can erase and redo whenever the SPIRIT moves me!

I love your black pumpkins.  They look even spookier and yet classy at the same time.  Very nice.

Sharon - I agree with what you said..seasonal rather than holiday decorations.  Love the idea of chalk paint on the pumpkins!

I like the burlap and the boo very much. If this home is for sale the idea of bringing a smile to a buyers face would make the decorations well worth it.

Kimo Stowell  Thank you!

Belinda Spillman  And the grandkids can draw all over them if they want to and it washes right off!

Kathy Streib  The chalkboard pumpkins were a huge hit with the grands.

Anna Banana Kruchten  Thank you!   Creativity is best when it goes wild!

Joe Pryor  I appreciate that, thank you!

I don't really have a problem with going with scary Halloween decor when your home is listed, but only for a limited time....the week of Halloween maybe. Once 11/1 comes it should be neutralized to just seasonal decor.

Sharon, you are a 'natural' - a natural, creative genius. I also pick up the 'fun' in your creativity.  You are perhaps a joy in many lives you touch.

Okay, admittedly I'm not the crafty one in our household, Sharon Tara ... but I can tell you when I really LIKE something ... and your decor pics definitely do.  I can only imagine the brainstorming of Halloween and Thanksgiving decor they will inspire ...

Lovely pumpkins Sharon Tara! Brilliant minds don't run in my family.

If I only had a brain, I'd be in costume and have my house decorated too.
