Ask an Ambassador: are you prepared for cyber attacks?

I just signed a document a little while ago on authentisign.  I also had updated on offer this morning on Transaction Desk. Now both those sites are down. I still needed to get a document to my client for signature.  It needed to be signed electronically. I have a backup system.  It's still up.  Do you have a backup system?

Do you have just one website?  Is it up and running?  I have two and while from time to time there have been outages that have one of them down for a short period, never have both of them been down. So when a client calls and says I was trying to look at listings and your site is down I can always direct them to the other.

Do you only blog here on ActiveRain?  While I freely admit that I primarily blog here I also have blogs on my primary site and blogger and even a few good ranking posts published directly on Linked-In. 

If I needed to write a contract I have copies of blanks saved as a pdf on my computer.  So today I just wanted to tell you ... have contingency plans for when things go sideways.  It happens sometimes.  Today was one of those days.

I just got notice of a huge cyber attack that took down our MLS. That's why paperless is not always the best. I have a closing held up where my seller is in Hawaii and electronic digital docs are not happening right now Tammy Lankford,

Tammy, I only found out what was going on a few minutes ago. Now that explains why I couldn't get into a site earlier! But oh my... scary stuff. 

I have backup plans because if they can go sideways, they will go sideways. Like you I keep a file on my computer full of blank, fill-able pdf's of the forms I may need. 

For the life of me I cannot figure out why people do things like this. I really, really can't. I have said it before, I will say it again. Perhaps they don't have enough to do in their little lives. Maybe they should be put to work milking cows, picking fruit, mucking stalls. They obviously have too much time on their hands and need some really tough physical work to do to tire them out. 

Really... really ticks me off!

Tammy,  my sites were not down to day yet there were many others I could not access.  DNS server was not finding the sites.  Frustrating for sure ... yet I did manage to use the time wisely ... I cleaned my bathroom (LOL)!

I'm glad this did not effect my Buyer's wire transfer this morning for our afternoon closing. In fact, the wire went from his bank to attorney's account in like TEN minutes. I've never seen so fast.

But you are 210% right for having a backup system. All my forms are in FMLS and if I needed one....well, today I may have had a problem! 

Best have a back up alright!!

Oh, you're preaching to the Queen of back-up plans and Plan B organizers. My time is too valuable, and my irritation level is low. I go so far as to have 3 different phone carriers. I would never, for example, use the same carrier for my iPad as I do my cellphone. And I can use both of those as a hotspot should my ISP go on the blink to connect my computer. I also use 2 efax numbers, plus I have scanning abilities if I can't efax. I don't rely on any one source.
