All of Their Hi-Tech Security Never Planned on a Crazy Raccoon

By

In the wee hours of the morning yesterday, an adventurous raccoon snuck through the security at a power station in north-central Aurora and somehow managed to blow out a transformer and cut off power to 26,831 customers.

Customers woke yesterday morning to no power while the power plant employees worked feverishly to restore things back to normal.

Sadly, the raccoon was electrocuted in the process.

Do you think the raccoon broke into the power plant with the intent of causing this damage?  Is he part of a raccoon gang who's main purpose in life is to create havoc to humans?  I guess we will see if there are any more raccoon shenanigans in the days to come.

I'm sure the power plant spent a hefty amount to install security systems at their location, but obviously they didn't take in account the determination of a sneaky raccoon!

Belinda,

And they worried about mankind? Who would have added the little known factor of the nasty raccoon element. 🤑🤑

The CEO of the power station in north-central Aurora should erect a statue in the park in memory of this beautiful creature who sacrificed his or her life to ensure security measures were in place for 26,831 customers. Then the Power Company should make a huge donation to protect wildlife.

Hi Belinda Spillman - Of course this raccoon is part of a gang. Look at the mask it is wearing to hide it's true identity.  I would be on the look out for more just like him!

Racoons can create a lot of messes but this story is the worst I've heard of!  We used to have a pack of racoons that came down off the mountain at night and it was kind of scary. One night we heard lots of noise on the roof about midnight.  We both went out and sure enough it was a very nasty pack of racoons hissing at us. We decided to not mess with them!! I don't know how animal control findly got rid of these guys but they did after a few months - thankfully.

This is a good lesson to learn from. Some at the plant will be rejoyc while the salaried employees will be grumbling. The safety guys will plotting away on a forever fix.

If you look closely you will see the raccoon has a mask on and this should show he was up to no good.

First of all, rest in peace raccoon.  As for the problem the security staff didn't see coming, I'm sure this will be a cautionary tale for all power plants in our country.

So funny, but true Belinda Spillman raccoons are more than a bit sneaky. Wonder if they were the cause of internet outages yesterday.

Hi Belinda - We heard about your power outage on the 10 pm news. I feel really bad about the raccoon - I once raised 8 babies whose mom had died, and I think they get a bad rap just because they wear that mask.

Luckily I live far enough south that it didn't affect me.

Hi Belinda -- RIP Raccoon --- we may never know the reasons why he(or she) made that fateful journey but hopefully the power plant has some insight so this type of situation can be avoided if possible.

Belinda I like to keep a respectful distance from Racoon's, I have seen a family of five move around at night in our neighborhood....as you know we live close to LAX (Los Angeles International Airport aka Westchester) I wonder what they could do to the Air Traffic?,Endre

Belinda-Our home backs to a green belt and we've seen racoons on the back porch. They are pretty aggresive sometimes and are not too afraid of people.

The raccoon was on a mission . . . .  But he didn't plan on raccoon security to bust them.

Good luck and success.

Doesn't sound like terrorism to me, poor little thing just in the wrong place at the wrong time. We have had a couple of squirrel related power outages in our small neighborhood.  The squirrels were also electrocuted.
