Ridiculous Article Of The Day

Question:  Why do some people try to compare things that aren't comparable?

Compliments of Redfin, I bring you my selection for the "Most Ridiculous Article Of The Day" award. It is titled: The Inequality of Energy Costs: California Homeowners Get a Break

The research, I'm sure, is meticulous but the comparison is ridiculous.

As I said in the comments section of the article:  "It is ridiculous to compare the ratio of energy costs to housing costs for insanely high price housing in SF (for example) where temps are mild to the Midwest where prices are much cheaper and temperatures more extreme.  The only accurate way to compare is dollar to dollar for an equal sized home.  The energy consumption and costs on home within any given city can vary due to multiple factors.  Buyers can request an energy usage report to review prior to purchase."

Such a comparison is like having a fruit basket and comparing one fruit to another. Does the saying comparing apples to oranges come to mind?  I repeat... it is ridiculous.

What say you?

Good morning Carol.  I know when I moved from my old home about 5 miles away.  I was on propane and now natural gas.  My bill dropped by two-thirds.  The home I'm living in is about 100 sq. ft. larger and the bill is lower.  No comparison.

Good morning James Dray .  That is an excellent example of my point of how ridiculous this article is. Glad to hear you're saving money.  Have an amazing day!

Good morning Carol Williams,

I've had clients experience the same as James Dray . They moved out of City of Austin utility district 3 miles away into the Pedernales Co-op and their utilities were noticeably cheaper in a bigger home! Not a viable comparison at all!

Hello Carol Williams, not a fan of Redfin but every article is interesting from Zillow and others.  Make it a great day.

I agree it is not a fair comparison and not many are going to fall for this. Duh!

Hi Carol Williams ,  It sounds like the author of the article may have been desperate to get his deadline and didn't think before he wrote.
