People don't get it.

People don't get  it..especially young people.

A neighbors house was robbed and vandalized.

They had gone on vacation and found the mess when they returned home.

They could not understand how anyone would have had an idea they were gone.

They had light timers and people moving cars.

Well, as it turned out the 16 year old daughter had posted on FACE BOOK

that they were going to be gone for a full week.

Hard to know who was the culprit but I do know of one young lady who

no longer has a cell phone with Internet. If fact, she no longer has a face book account.

We somehow meed to get through to these young people of the dangers of letting everyone know your every move.

That is so sad, especially as it could even be her "friends" who did it.

The daughter probably had no idea how she was exposing their home to thieves.

Less Facebook would go a long way.

Good luck and success.

Yikes!  Too bad that a simple click of a keystroke could have caused such drama.  Social media is great when used properly!

Not sure how to make that happen. There are adults who don't seem to understand that either. I only post about vacation AFTER we're back in town!

Hi Bill... you are singing my song! I've been singing it a very long time and just don't get why so many people miss the basic common sense of not announcing they are not home (even for one evening) to the world at large.

It saounds like the parents took the right action on the daughter assumng that if they had all these safeguards in place that the child would have konwn to keep quiet.

That is very sad and it is unfortunate that we can't share our lives with people on such places like Facebook, without having to worry about being robbed while we are gone.

All the kids were informed NOT to let anyone know of their plans.  Not only did the daughter post it on FaceBook but on other sights the entire time they were gone.

I compliment the parents for actually taking a HARD stand on this to make a point not only to the daughter but to all her friends.

William, On a daily basis I see well meaning adults posting their vacation pics on Facebook. My wife does not allow me to post until we get back.

Hi William, this is such a shame.  I am not a fan of FB but use it to begrudgingly. Hopefully the young girl will see that the world does not stop.

Good morning, William!

We all must be careful with what we share on social media posts.  Some things that we share may lead to unwanted results.

Great post!

William, I particpate in a few local Facebook groups and I can't count the number of times adults have broadcast to the entire group/world the exact dates they're going to be out of town for something.  Since we're a public record state, it would be easy enough to figure out where they live.  You just never know what type of person is lurking in a Facebook group collecting info for later use.  Bill
