Strawberry Festival Time in Troy, Ohio!

By

Okay, everyone - it's almost time (oh, I can't wait) for the annual Strawberry Festival here in Troy!  Pretty soon, the city fountain will be flowing a gorgeous pink - the first sign that it's coming!  Then magically, the streets will be painted with strawberries, leading the traffic to the most delectable, yummy event!

I know our company has done a float for the past several years.  If nothing else other than getting the name out, we always have fun working on the float.  The time, the cooperation, and the camraderie on building whatever we pick to bring out the theme of the parade really solidifies our Troy office.  Yes, there may be times we are ready to tear someone apart, severing limbs and ripping eyeballs out (especially at 2:00 in the morning the day of the parade as we put the final touches on the float), but we are all adults here, and more importantly, kids at heart!  Our first year, the float was pretty benign - one agent actually built a small house that was on the float - siding and all!    That was our first year.  Then we advanced on to a little more advanced float, but our best float was last year's tiki hut float.  Lots of work, lots of tears, but worth it in the end.  We haven't won a prize yet, but we are known!  And it's really cool being on Channel 7 for the live broadcast of the parade!

Troy's Strawberry Festival is amazing - held on the levee of the Great Miami River in downtown Troy, Ohio, over 250,000 people come for the weekend to sample incredible foods (yes, all made with strawberries) and generally eat from one side of the festival grounds to the other.  There's the usual gift stuff, with everything from homemade country items to hand painted this and thats, but the main event is the food!   Each year visitors consume over 12,000 servings of strawberry shortcake, 60,000 strawberry donuts, 2500 chocolate-covered strawberries, and 3500 chicken dinners - yummy!  There is ALWAYS a line for the donuts - oh, when they are warm.....heaven.....

If you happen to be in the area on June 6, 7, & 8, feel free to drop by.  Eat a bit.  Relax and have fun.  Oh, and don't forget to visit the Schmidt haus for a Bahama Mama with sauerkraut and the works - to die for!  Then, go have dessert!
