Andreas Vesalius was born in Brussels in the Netherlands back in 1514 to Anders and Isabel. In 1528 he entered into the University of Leuven majoring in Greek, Latin and medicine. He returned to Leuven where he completed his studies graduating the next year. He moved again where he studied at the University of Padua for his medical doctorate receiving that degree in 1537.
Immediately after graduating he was offered the chair of surgery and anatomy at Padua. He assisted the future Pope Paul IV who was afflicted by leprosy in Venice. It was while he was in the area he wrote his first text in 1538. In 1539 he published his Venesection letter on bloodletting. Sadly, he died way before his time in 1564 at the age of 49. However, can you tell me what he is written in the history books for?
Well you’re in luck for you see he is the first doctor to study and write about the human anatomy. For you see until he came long the only anatomy that was written about was the anatomy of animals (not the human kind).. He is often referred to as the founder of modern human anatomy.
