Retirement: A Story About Setting Up Your Golden Years; one couple's journey.
They Had A Plan
They Had A Process
They Had a Purpose
I learned a lot about one of the right ways to retire from Michael & Janet, two of my clients I helped buy their "retirement home". Imagine a couple that makes retirement look good!
- They are both happy to be in their marriage (a second for each of them, no kids).
- They are active together and apart; Michael & Janet share mutual interests and have their individual pursuits as well.
- They still go out on dates.
- They workout in a gym and go for walks.
- They travel!
- They are active in their new community; very involved in fact from their own HOA, to local government and even volunteer positions. Wow!
- They planned their retirement: they had a budget, they had a vision, they planned a move & a new home (that's where I came in). Most importantly, they didn't wait until the last minute for any of this.
- They met with their CPA & Wealth Planner regularly and they began the task of working with a social security counselor in advance of their actual retirement.
- They have stepped out of the work force, only to step into their marriage, their interests and life, much deeper and it inspired me.
I'm in my late 40's, married with one adult son, so I'm 20-25 years away from this event, according to my plan, but it taught me a lot, working with Micahel & Janet. Here's my story of how I met them, helped them buy their dream home and relocate to La Jolla, CA to retire. In sharing their story, I share a few tips I gathered along the way about setting up the Golden Years, to be golden! I hope it inspires you to have a plan for your Golden Years!
