Just in time for Halloween just seven days from today, Charlotte, North Carolina has been ranked #15 as one of the top 20 cities in the USA in which to "trick or treat" by Zillow in 2016. Single home density is one of the key criteria to a city being "trick or treat" friendly and Charlotte has more than its fair share of single homes and neighborhoods with lots of young families.

Top 20 Cities For Trick-Or-Treating in 2016:

  1. Philadelphia
  2. San Jose, California
  3. San Francisco

Halloween Safety Tips For Charlotte, North Carolina Homeowners:

  1. Clear your front yard of anything that would be a tripping hazard--rakes, garden hoses, flower pots, dog toys, kid toys, etc.

  2. Illuminate your front walk and any steps leading to the front door.

  3. Real candles could be a safety and fire hazard in outdoor decorations on Halloween night. Avoid these or place them well away from where trick or treaters will be walking. And just in case, have a fire extinguisher at the ready.

  4. If you're driving in/through your neighborhood, drive extra slowly and watch carefully for young children who can run out into the street.

Lou Ludwig ~ hi Lou... Charlotte is a good place to trick or treat whether we are on a list or not. High concentration of young families in the area.

Beth Atalay ~ hi Beth... thanks... it'll be at least another few days before I start feeling normal. And then to add insult to injury, yesterday morning, I missed a step on my garage stairs and took a tumble... badly sprained ankle and lots of aches, but still amazed I didn't crack my head open on the cement floor.

Ed Silva ~ hi Ed... I can tell you we get dozens and dozens of kids at our home trick or treating. I really love seeing the excitement of the younger ones... and the creativity of some of the costumes.

George Souto ~ hi George... I don't like to think about how much money I spend on Halloween candy for trick or treaters each year. Thank heavens for BJ's, where I can buy huge bags at a discount and with coupons.

Dick Greenberg ~ hi Dick... our neighborhood is just the opposite with small lots, front porches, sidewalks on both sides of the street. Brings out a ton of kids.

Portland Oregon is #8, wow! There was an area I lived in in SE Portland many years ago, that had two competing families who every year tried to one-up each other on Halloween. Dry ice, bodies coming up out of the ground, so spectacular! I miss seeing that. Glad that Charlotte made it onto the list of the Top 20. I'd be a bit worried in Philly, though (I used to live there, too)!

Sharon Tara ~ hi Sharon, do you think it's weather? That hadn't occured to me, especially as Chicago and Milwaukee made the list and I think of them as being colder than New Hampshire.

Congrats on making the list.  I am guessing we are at the bottom no matter the length.  Miles between homes sometimes.  Kids would need be shuttled.  lol

So the malls do the kids here in North Idaho for the most part.  Mark

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint ~ hi Mark... having always lived in more densely populated areas, I'd never given much thought to the issue of how kids trick or treat in areas like yours.

My town must have a very low score. We are small and spread out. That's ok, though. There are plenty of party opportunities for the young ones to take advantage of for Halloween.

Debbie Laity ~ hi Debbie... I think as long as there are fun opportunities to dress up and collect some candy, kids don't care how it happens.

I hope it was a safe one for your city. In our neighborhood there is a party for the kids and parents, and there is a two hour limit on coming to homes.
