Does Your Real Estate Website Leak?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jaclyn Smith Properties

As a real estate marketing firm, our marketing consultants are called upon occasionally to perform website evaluations. One of the biggest problems we identify on many agent websites today is the problem of website "leakage". Well, it really shouldn't be called "leakage". It's more like "escape by invitation". So does your real estate website provide your site visitors with an easy way to escape. To often many agents are oblivious to what is happening. How you ask?

Do You Need to Plug the Holes in Your Real Estate Website?

In what way do we willingly "send" site visitors away from our real estate websites? For the complete story how your website might be "sending" site visitors to your competition, be sure to read the rest of the story here>

Hi Sonja - In many MLS boards agents are limited as to what search capabilities they can offer to site visitors. We all know consumers want to search for properties, so not offering a search is unacceptable. If you must link away from your site to a property search page (provided by your broker or your MLS board), do it and accept the limitations you are stuck with. To the extent possible, try to have your search page "branded" to the look of your personal website.

Greetings Scott - I see lots of "leaky boats" out there. There are solutions and I'm sure there is one that is just right for you. Base you decision with these following thoughts in mind:

  1. Do I have time to plug the holes with missing area information and write it myself?
  2. If I don't have the time, what other resources can I secure to help me plug the holes?
  3. Are there free resources (interns, journalism school majors, marketing majors, community college students who can write area information for me for free.)
  4. Should I pay a copy writer?

By asking these questions, you will be able to know how to address the leaks and plug the holes.  Good luck!

Bobby,
Well, I can see that I have work to do on my website.  Looks like I'll be getting less sleep in the near future.  Thanks for the advice.

Hi Cynthia - Sorry! Look at it this way..I guess sleep lose is better than revenue loss from site leakage.

Hi Roland - Love your area. I actually wrote some copy for a past client there (The Vaughan Team). Be sure you beef-up your local area information. You and I both know that's what site visitors want to read about.

Hello there Georgina from my favorite Pacific island of Maui! I agree... hang on to those site visitors by offering them unique, original content instead of sending them to other links where they may slip away.

Hi Klarque - Because your website really has no geographic focus, it would appear offering area information to your site visitors isn't part of your current content offering. If however, the mission is to empower your site visitors with information about the area you service, it would seem you have a wide open opportunity to add some unique content about the locations you service.
