Grand Traverse Turkey Hunting!

The first 2 weeks of the 2008 spring Turkey hunt (Unit K) has been spectacular. There are lots of birds on the move searching for receptive hens and food. Because of the lack of rain the birds really have to work to find food. There is not much green in the woods as of yet so spotting birds off in the distance is a little easier than most years. Birds in the area are gobbling hard and are responding to calls. The hunting pressure is very low throughout the Pere Marquette State Forest area. Look for birds working recent clear cuts along the Boardman and its tributaries. We have had some big winds and rain during the mornings of the second week making hearing difficult, but the late morning and early afternoon have been sunny. The birds really seem to be on the move and gobbling between 10 and 2. Good Luck.

We have absolutely great deals on hunting property here in Grand Traverse County! Over 1 acre lots backing up to State Land  start around 12,000. 10 Acre lots go between 20- and 45,000. These are all within 20 minutes of Downtown Traverse City.

Turkey hunting has been great in our unit (j) as well up here by Petoskey.  I got my bird on Sunday at 3:30 in the afternoon.  He weighed 25 pounds and had 1 1/2" spurs, came in all by himself gobbling like crazy.
