RE/MAX National Housing Report:

September 2016 Housing Data

The RE/MAX National Housing Report for October 2016: "Demand remained strong in September" is the "story of the month," with home sales being the highest of any September since RE/MAX began publishing this monthly update some eight years ago. Sales increased 2%  and median sale prices also increased 5.1% (with not a single metro market of the 52 that RE/MAX follows posting a year-over-year drop in home prices).

To quote Dave Liniger, Chairman and CEO of RE/MAX: The market usually sees fewer home sales in September, as buyers make a seasonal transition from summer to fall.  Even so, sales were the highest of any September since we launched our Housing Report in 2008. Also, price increases continue to be in the moderate 5-percent year-over-year range. Overall, this is a market that most everyone can be satisfied with.”

How Charlotte, North Carolina's region compared to national statistics in September 2016:

  • Median sale price of Charlotte region homes was up 9.1% compared with Setpember 2015 (and up 6.2% on a year-to-date basis as compared with 5.1% for national statistics). Charlotte area's median price sale is catching up with national averages at $207,000.

  • Months supply of homes in the Charlotte region was 3.0 months, down 28.6% versus September 2015. This too compares favorably with the national average of 4.5 months. Charlotte is much more of a seller's market, while the national market is more balanced between buyers and sellers.

  • Inventory of homes in the Charlotte region was down 22.1% in September 2016 (compared with national figures down at 15.1%) as compared with one year ago.

With continuing demand for homes and rising home prices it may be the perfect time to sell your home. It may also be the perfect time to buy a home before prices rise further.

Will Hamm ~ thanks, Will. Not even close to catching up on sleep. And then on top of all of that I managed to fall down the garage stairs yesterday morning. Just lucky I didn't crack my head open and just limping with a badly sprained ankle.

Roy Kelley ~ thanks, Roy. It was one of those weird accidents and fortunately I wasn't hurt as badly as I could have been given where and how I fell.

Dolores fell down our stairs at home some time ago. She was lucky to come down on her bottom and had no severe damage. She was wearing socks on the hardwood stairs. Those of us in the seniors category need to take extra precautions.

Roy Kelley ~ hi Roy... I still don't really like to think of myself as a "senior" since in my head I'm still only 35 or so. Slippery stairs was the major reason we carpeted ours. In my case, I was carrying a big box down the garage stairs and just missed "seeing" the last step.

Hi Nina - I always think info graphics are great.  A picture is worth 1,000 words.  Bottom line, any way you slice it Charlotte is a strong market.
