Do you know your state's favorite Halloween candy? I know that when I checked out the favorite for North Carolina (Butterfingers) it was a complete surprise to me. My personal experience with trick or treaters coming to my house is a strong preference for KitKats, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Skittles. Then again, perhaps I shouldn't have been overly surprised, as a recent study by Influenster of some 40,000 people all across the nation found that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were the most popular candy, followed by Kit Kats and Butterfingers. And did you know that the same study found that peanut butter cups were voted the top candy by all 50 states? So my "personal" little poll wasn't too far off the mark.
Halloween candy sales are a big deal for candy manufacturers and 2016 is slated to have the highest ever spending on candy this Halloween season according to the National Retail Federation. In fact, according to CandyIndustry.com, "spending for this year’s holiday will be downright spooky — spooky good, that is." Their recent survey of almost 7,000 consumers indicated that 94.3% would be buying candy and that 71% would be handing out candy. As a result, Halloween candy sales in 2016 are projected to be as $2.5 billion. (And this despite the "scary" increases in the price of candy.)
If you haven't yet done your Halloween candy shopping, why not check out the map below for your state's favorite candy and lay in a supply of it? (By the way, Influenster also found that candy corn continues to be a perrenial favorite in most states, so you can't go wrong with handing out candy corn.)
