OK, we all have spooky stories related to our real estate career. This Halloween, I'm sharing a couple of mine. I would also love to hear from Real Estate Pros around the country to hear their spooky stories as well!
My first story comes from before I was a REALTOR. I was a first time home buyer working with an agent. We walked into a home on our showing list only to be welcomed with a horrible stench. It took my agent half a second to stop dead in her tracks and say, "There's a dead body in here. We're leaving."
As we turned around to walk out, we noticed there was broken glass on the floor next to the entryway. Clearly a crime scene, we hightailed it out of there and my agent called the police. I let my agent know that I thought it was time to start looking in a different neighborhood!
As an agent, the spookiest experience I had was showing a vacant home in Paradise Valley, AZ. The price point was well over $2,000,000 and it was a sprawling home. It didn't seem to be in disrepair, but it was an older home in desperate need of a remodel.
My client and I toured the home's main level and upper story with fascination, as this home clearly had a history - one we knew a little about but no real details. As we finished touring the upper level, we made our way to the basement entryway. As soon as we got to the entrance of the basement, a cold gust of air hit us. Nothing unusual about that in theory, but both of us stopped short. We turned to look at each other with wide eyes. Without saying a word, we both held out an arm for the other to see - showing off our goosebumps. My client started to back up, saying, "Yeah. I've seen enough. I'm not interested," then turned tail and practically bolted.
Now I'm not saying that house was haunted, but both my client and I decided it wasn't worth it to find out!
So this Halloween, let me know your spooky real estate stories. And have a Happy and Safe Trick-or-Treat day!
