After going through the stress and considerable demands of home buying, it would be disheartening to discover that there are many things wrong with your house. Hence it’s important to choose your home carefully. Apart from the big investment, you and your family will stay in your new home for many years to come and you shouldn’t be lackadaisical about your choice. Here are five important things to inspect when it comes to first time home buying.
1. The house’s location
Inspect your neighborhood and your neighbors. You may be stuck with them for many years. Find out how close your house is to good schools, shops, markets and restaurants. You should also check road infrastructure and traffic. You should know the tax rate also. Although location is sizably important in real estate, it shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all. An area can change for better or worse within a period of five to ten years.
2. Structure
Structural issues with a house are hard to fix and may keep reoccurring over time. Therefore it is important to locate them beforehand. The structure of a house includes the foundation, roof and frame. Everything else is built around these. When you have to spend excessively on structural issues, you’d not be able to spend on things that’ll beautify your home and turn it into the dream home you envisioned.
3. Electrical and plumbing
Old houses are not built to meet the electrical requirements that we have today. It is frustrating to have insufficient outlets and potentially dangerous to overload the existing outlets. Old plumbing can also be problematic. Both the electrical and plumbing fixes are expensive but should last the duration of your home ownership.

4. Flooring
Flooring is something that may be improved rather conveniently - as long as you adhere to the right techniques to floor installation. Even within the major categories of tile, laminate, wood, and carpet flooring, there's a variety of options to suit your spending plan, care, and style preferences. The flooring in your home is really important and floor updates last the entire duration of your home ownership.

5. Floorplan flow

Is the square footage utilized in a way that makes sense to you? Is there enough space? Are the areas you utilize most convenient to each other? Do you prefer an open floor plan or rooms that are set apart? The floor plan in your home should match with your lifestyle.
House hunting can be daunting, but knowing what to probe for helps simplify the process. If you are looking for a house to build your life around, probe for those already good in the things you can't change, so that you can afford to transmute the more stylistic things that will turn your new house into your dream home.
