Hokulei Village in Lihue on the island of Kauai has been fully open for a year now. It's absolutely awesome to have a full-size grocery store in Lihue given the traffic difficulty in driving to Kapaa. The image below was posted in August 2015 shortly before the Safeway opened. The difference between then and now is the number of cars parked out front. There's much more now but this is Kauai where nothing fills to capacity so it's a pleasant trip to go shopping here without waiting in long lines. Lihue is the place on the island that has everything, Home Depot, Costco, Walmart, K-Mart, Macy's, Lihue Airport, and now Safeway. "Everything" is relative of course where there is much less on Kauai than in big mainland cities. Nevertheless, we now have what we need without fighting traffic to get to other Kauai locations. Thank you Safeway, we needed you!
