How to Tag Another Member in a Comment on ActiveRain

Reblogger Stavrula "Sam" Crafa, RNC,GRI, CDPE, PSA

I have been noticing that some people tag me in the responses to my blog posts, so I tried to do it a couple of times when I was responding to someones blog post but couldn't figure out how to do it. So I did a search in ActiveRain Real Estate Network and found this original entry. Not hard to do once you know how. Reposting so that others who might be clueless like I was, will now know how to do it. Hope it helps.

On July 28th, ActiveRain released a new feature that allows you to 'tag' another member in a comment. By doing such, that person is then notified, via email, that you are speaking about them when you left your comment.

In order to tag another member in a comment, all you need to do is start by typing the @ sign, and then begin typing their name.

You are able to tag someone if any one of the following criteria are met:

  • You are following them
  • They have commented on the post already
  • They have 'liked' the post
  • They have 'liked' a comment on the post
  • Or they are the author of the post

It will look something like.........

Once you begin to type the other member's name, they will pop up in the little box like you see above. When you see the person you are trying to tag, simply click on their name, at which point their name will become a link, and then continue typing your comment. Now, when you 'post' your comment, that other member will be sent an email notification that you mentioned them.

What's The Point?

The first place I see this being used is when you respond to someone's comment they left on your blog. People don't always click the little option to be notified of additional comments, because let's face it, some of your blog posts get a TON of comments and the flood of email can drown someone. So now, you can tag the person as you respond to them to let them know you responded.

Or maybe to get your friends involved in conversations where you think they could really add something to the discussion. If someone was talking about doing mail campaigns, I might tag Barbara Todaro (at some point in the future, expect to see this same functionality when you write a blog post, since I would love to tag Barbara right here) to come share her ridiculously expansive knowledge on the subject. If someone was discussing how to create custom Google maps, I know Craig Daniels could be a big help. Or maybe I wanted a tongue in cheek response to something I thought was totally off the wall, I always know I could call on my friend Greg Nino.

Whatever your reason for wanting your friends in the Rain to jump in and join the discussion, you can easily get them involved by tagging them in a comment.

Tagging is a great feature. Good for you that you researched it yourself and found the answer.

Thanks for re-blog Stavrula "Sam" Crafa.

It is very important - and I do like to 'talk' to the member using this technique.

At research papers on line tagging helps us to inform our members about updates and news. Quite helpful.
