What Makes a Good Real Estate Agent?

Real estate agents come in all shapes and sizes, all ages, all political and religious persuasions and all types of morals and character.  The question at hand, then, would be what makes a good real estate agent?  Regardless of all the differences between them, is there some similar trait that you should look for if you need a good real estate agent?

 

Some consumers want a real estate agent who is outgoing, gregarious, can sell anything; while others aren’t concerned about personality and would rather have a real estate agent who studies the market, does lots of research and knows the inventory.  What makes a good real estate agent is someone who absolutely has a passion for the practice of real estate.  Without a passion, an agent is just working at job.  With a passion, however, the agent isn’t working; the agent is living the practice of real estate. 

 

Anyone can be taught to sell real estate.  What makes a good real estate agent is the person who lets the product sell itself and during the process will lay out his or her heart and soul for the consumer, i.e. the agent who is real.  The laws of agency tell us that we are to put everyone else’s interests ahead of our own.  A good real estate agent goes one step further.  He or she will put everyone else’s interests ahead of his or her own even if the consumer is not a client, but rather, is a customer.

 

A good real estate agent will always voluntarily go the extra mile.  A good real estate agent knows both the local and the national market and doesn’t hesitate to share that knowledge with a consumer.  A good real estate agent isn’t dictated by his or her watch; he or she is dictated by the consumer’s needs.  A good real estate agent focuses on the consumer’s goals, not his or her own.  When a real estate agent has such a passion as to serve the consumers without hesitation, something magical happens.  It’s no longer a chore to find the right property or to sell the listing.  Pieces of the puzzle fall into place naturally, without any need for manipulation.  With that passion comes closings.  Now don’t get me wrong.  Real agents without passion still make money, but it’s never going to be consistent income.

 

What makes a good real estate agent?  Caring and nurturing helps.  Sacrificing your own time for their time helps.  Sincerity in the things you say helps.  Integrity helps.  Last, but certainly not least, sharpening your skills, refining your business plan, and continual growing helps make you a good real estate agent.  You can’t fake integrity, and you can’t fake knowledge.  With knowledge comes success.  To increase your knowledge, you need education and TEAM Hughes Real Estate School is in the business of education.  Let us know if we can help because that’s why we’re here.
