Adam Weishaupt was born in Ingolstadt, Bavaria back 1748 to Johann (sorry I don’t have his mother’s name). Adam was five years old when his father died and he was sent to the godfather to be raised. His godfather was a professor of law at the University of Ingolstadt. He taught Adam rationalism beginning his formal education at a Jesuit school. he graduated from the University of Ingolstadt in 1768 at 20 with a doctorate of law degree.
In 1772 he became a professor of law. In 1773 he married Afra. In 1775 he became a professor of canon law. For what he did in 1776 he was exiled to Gotha where he continued to write a series of works which we’ll go over shortly. He died in 1830 at 82 while still in exile in Gotha.
Now we’ll get to what he did and why he was exiled. For you see in on May Day in 1776 he founded a secret society called the “Illuminati”. In 1777 he was initiated into the Masonic Lodge where he recruited many of his followers. He wrote extensively from 1775 to 1818. Translated to English some of his writing include “Diogenes’ Lamp, Supplement to the Justification of My Intentions and The Secret School of Wisdom”.
