Real Life - Flamingos - PINK ONES!

Pulling up to my hotel in Palm Springs last week, I looked to my right and what, to my wandering eyes, did appear?  PINK FLAMINGOS!  Okay, so I'm over 50- and no, I have NEVER seen a real life Pink Flamingo!

Pink Flamingos in Palm Springs, CA

I was Ubering to the hotel with another girl who flew in with me for our coaching conference and I was a little embarrased but, I honestly think a 'little girl squeal' came out of me - I couldn't help myself!  By the time we arrived to the door of the hotel, I had justified my excitement by asking the other Uber rider if she had ever seen them and she also agreed that she too, was mesmerized - and had never seen a live one!  The Uber driver confirmed that when she moved there, it was also her 'first time' seeing them as well!  She told us that this was the only place in Palm Springs that had them.

When I arrived to the front desk, I requested a room with a view of the lagoon!  Momentarily saddened, I found that the front lagoon was the only one that had the Flamingos BUT, the one that my room overlooked had plenty of mallards, geese and ducks!  I quickly discovered that my room (on the first floor), butted up against the lagoon so, sitting on my balcony, the ducks would swim right up to the edge!

When I wasn't in class, I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of my surroundings and the nature that existed all around me.  Of course, I had to sneak back to the front lagoon to snap 100 shots of those gorgeous Pink Flamingos before I left Palm Springs!

Mallards from my balcony room

*This one is not my contest entry - I just had to share my balcony shot too!

As many times as I've been to Florida, I've never seen one, Beth Atalay!  Lucky you to live among them!  ;-)

Debb I've been to Florida quite often and have never seen a real one either.  How fun for  you both in seeing them AND in staying at a hotel surrounded by nature.

Hi Debe - Cool photos. When I was going to college in New Orleans, there was a large flock of flamingos at the Audubon Park zoo. We would sneak over there in the middle of the night, do a couple of flamingo calls (F'nurk! f'nurk!) and they would wake up, start calling themselves, and basically wake up the whole zoo. It was an amazing uproar - lions, elephants, zebras and everything else, followed closely by the cops.

At our local Sacramento Zoo, they have a pond loaded with pink flamingos, that has been in existence since I was a kid.  I never fail to be awe struck by their beauty when I visit!  Nice photo, Debe!

CONGRATULATIONS on having this blog FEATURED in the PHOTOS group!

Being born In Florida I saw many pink flamingos everywhere. They were very popular in the 50's. They almost look real in your photograph.

Anna Banana Kruchten, it really was a gorgeous place to stay!  Loved the 'modern' hotel that was surrounded by nature!

Well, Debe, you're one up on me! I haven't either and was honestly expecting a whole slew of plastic ones in a yard somewhere. Seriously!!! Especially in the miscellaneous category! I loved your little girl squeak remark...how sweet.

And the palm trees, water and red flowers make for nice framing.

Debe, love your flamingos!  The only ones we see are on spikes poked into front yards to annoy the neighbors!

I last saw flamingos at the Barcelona Zoo. But I know exactly what you mean. It's like they are not actually a real critter, er, bird. It's so exciting to spot one in the wild, too. We saw some in Galapagos but not really up close. You needed a telephoto lens for those. However, here is a pair, a mama feeding her baby in Spain. just for you, Debe.

There are very few pink flamingos in Florida . . . . but we can still see them at Disney World.

Good luck and success.

Thank you Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 - I think I snapped about 100 of just those birds while I had a chance - just to capture one good one!  LOL  And, I can tell you that if you're ever in Palm Springs, drive by the JW Marriott Desert Springs and you, too, can let out a little girl squeal!

Patricia Kennedy - Haha!  Those are the only ones I had seen before too!

Oh, how sweet, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents!  Thank you so much for sharing that!  Spain is definitely one of my bucket list destination spots - some day we'll get there and perhaps I'll get the opportunity to see more live pink flamingos!

Lou Ludwig - They are definitely a beautiful site, aren't they?!
