Things to Do on a Cloudy Day in Carlsbad

We love to talk about our weather here in Carlsbad and the many sunny days we enjoy. Living here is paradise as they say.

But we get our share of cloudy days, too, which can include the marine layer. Today was such a day. And while I was in Carlsbad Village running a couple of business errands, I stopped by the beach for a few minutes (I even did a quick LIVE video on Facebook!) which I enjoy no matter what the weather.

And it occurred to me that there are plenty of things to do on a cloudy day in Carlsbad.

In reality, you can do all the same stuff, except without sweating if you’re outside, or baking in the sun (unless that’s your goal). There are fewer people at the beach so you can enjoy more solitude if you enjoy walking or running. But there’s no need to mope around and gripe since there’s lots to do even on a cloudy day – here’s a short list:

Walk on or along the beach on the boardwalk

Sit on a bench on the boardwalk and read or just day dream

Watch for whales or dolphins

Surf or boogie board

Play volley ball or practice your yoga

Sit and watch the ocean and enjoy the bird life – seagulls, sandpipers, whimbrels and pelicans

Check out one of the many Carlsbad restaurants and enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks and appetizers

Have a massage or enjoy some other service at one of the many day spas

Shop til you drop

Go to a movie

Play a round of golf

Take a ride on your bike

Visit the Museum of Making Music

Spend some time at Legoland

Watch the sun set - you can see wonderful colors in the sky as long as the sun isn't totally obscurred

That ought to keep you busy
