Visit the Positivi-Tree in Downtown Silver Spring and spread some love

Positivi-Tree Downtown Silver SpringLast weekend Downtown Silver Spring, MD kicked off the holiday season with a Street Party and the lighting of the Positivi-Tree. We can all use some encouragement and positivity, wouldn't you agree?

The Positivi-Tree on Fountain Plaza is likely not one that you have seen before. Artists Jon Taylor and Karl Unnasch created a 35-foot tall art installation out of (colorful and patterned) umbrellas complete with a light show. If you are planning on seeing it, I encourage you to stop by in the evening. On Saturday the art installation drew quite the crowd - rightly so.

The umbrellas represent "protection, safety and inclusion" - a thoughtful reminder and timely, too. Next to the Positivi-Tree are 2 chalkboards inviting visitors to spread some love and positivity: This Season I Will.. and I Will Share My Umbrella With..

My daughters added that they would give shelter to those who need support the most and to have courage and be kind.

We loved the Positivi-Tree and the chalk boards next to it. It was incredibly inspiring and heart-warming to read the messages.

I somehow overlooked the fact you are in Silver Spring, Andrea. That was where my first husband was from and probably still lives, LOL. I never took his last name, though. We were married on Halloween '74 at the Breckinridge Courthouse in Colorado, and the judge shook my hand and said congratulations, Mrs. Higges (pronouncing it Hig-gies) and that was all it took for me not to change my name.
