If you’re like many people who are selling a home in Pasco County, Pinellas County, or Hillsborough County between parties, family get-togethers, and other holiday activities, you know that staging your house can be a deal-maker (or, conversely, a deal-breaker).
Holiday buyers are likely to be more serious than those who start thinking about purchasing in the spring, but you have to make sure you don’t drive them away by steering your home’s décor in the wrong direction.
Holiday Home Staging Tips
First, don’t overdo the décor.
“The right amount of holiday decor is any amount that gives your home the holiday spirit but not so much that it makes it uncomfortable to enjoy entertaining guests,” says Angie Forte, a design consultant with Peddler Interiors, an interior design showroom in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
That goes for potential buyers, too. You need to ensure that your home doesn’t look cluttered or crowded, so go easy on the holiday décor this year.
Make sure your holiday collection matches your existing décor, too, or at least complements it. If your dining room is a beautiful shade of sky blue, choose white snowflakes or silver accents rather than bright red decorations, which can throw off the room’s balance.
Draw attention to your home’s best features by highlighting them with holiday décor. Try hanging a sprig of mistletoe from an arched entryway or display a snow globe on your bay window’s ledge. Be careful not to block beautiful views, though; buyers will be more concerned about those than most other things in your home.
