What are you grateful about? I am so grateful that my dad....

We are so busy with our lives, that seldom do we take time out and look around and identify the many things we need to or should be grateful for. I am so grateful that I had wonderful parents, who instilled in me a sense of RIGHT and WRONG. I have seen too many people who lacked a Moral Compass. I on the other hand have learned about having my Moral Compass. Not picking on any professions, I have seen it in all: Politicians, Attorneys, Sales People, Bankers and the list goes on and on that did not have wonderful parents like mine to instill this important virtue.

I was lucky, that my father educated me by his living it, which was the best or should I say a true example. I have lived a luxurious life until the age of ten. Then my dad decided to leave Communist Hungary for the Dream of Living Free without Government Spies watching over your every move. Leaving a country, uprooting your family was not an easy decision, he included us all my mom and me the ten-year-old son.

I learned about taking Risks which might have big rewards. I learned to make sacrifices, starting life over and learning a new language and living in a new culture. Not having the life of luxury rather the life of starting over and must see life from the bottom up and working for every moment.

Once we settled in Austria, just after I learned German and settled into a routine, my father said this is just a temporary layover. Our Goal or should I say Objective is to live in the United States of America. I was thinking OH NO… not again…

He initially did not get his wish, we were rejected… NO was not in his vocabulary… he wrote a letter to President Lyndon B Johnson and next thing I know is we were in the United States. I have learned determination, perseverance as well as overcoming obstacles from my dad.

As you can see what an awesome education to have prior to becoming a Relocation Realtor in Beverly Hills, who happens to speak German & Hungarian and has relocated quite a few times. Not just speaking about Relocation, but experiencing it. I believe one time I counted how many times I have moved and it was close to 35 times that I have moved in my life.

Thank you, Dad, for exposing me to all these experiences, it has made me stronger as well as it allowed me to be exposed to many different cultures and societies. Clearly laid a good foundation to be a Relocation Realtor in the Greater Los Angeles area.  I just wish I could thank you personally face to face…

I am also glad you were so determined to move to the best country in the world. Thank you and I am glad you did. I have no desire to move to another country ever…

Ethics and having a moral compass are qualities that are important, and provide much to be grateful for! You were blessed to have your dad to teach them to you!

Hi Endre... a wonderful tribute to your Dad... I was very moved being an immigrant myself in the early 1950's. I understand the immigrant experience my parents went through and it's similar to your family's. What concerns me these days is that unlike how we were raised understanding good and bad, is the level of moral relativism we see in society today.

Endre,  I enjoyed reading the little history about you and your family.  Your Dad instilled much in you. That is truly a blessing.

The absence of a moral compass exists in all professions.  We tend to see it more in real estate because that is where a lot of our time and attention is spent.

Endre, thank you so much for sharing you father with us.  He is one more wonderful example of the contribution that immigrants have made to making this country great.  Your dad took nothing about the United States for granted!

There is a direct correlation between the lives lived by those that have had to work hard for everything they have and those that like to just hold out their hands and not even say thank you.
