We all know how it important it is to keep marketing consistently, to farm on a regular basis over a long period of time. A lot of the time when handing out flyers or doorknocking in your farm you don't get instantaneous results nor do you expect them. A homeowner may get a flyer and hold onto it for a year or two and when they're ready to buy/sell they've still got it on their fridge or around the house and decide to give you a call. In a recent event at our RE/MAX NOC office, it wasn't a flyer a client held onto, but a promise and it wasn't a year or two before calling, but 25 years.
One of our agents here at RE/MAX NOC, Bill Sylvis, just had a call from a homeowner in Anaheim wanting to list his home. The homeowner actually listed his home with Bill 25 years ago but after a month on the market decided they didn't want to sell the home anymore. That homeowner promised Bill that when he was eventually ready to sell his home that he would certainly contact him. He kept the promise. Since 1991 Bill has continued farming that area, dropping off his popular newsletter that features both real estate information and non-real estate information (recipes, fun facts, etc.). It may be that the homeowner is one of the most loyal clients of all-time but I also believe that the reason the homeowner contacted Bill was due to the continued exposure to Bill's marketing material and the fact that they could actually see Bill, out in the field, in the neighborhood, for 20+ years.
Although it took 25 years, it's still a listing. It's a renewed relationship between two hardworking, loyal individuals. It's great to see work that you did and earned, pay off 25 years later...
