Travel ~ Increasing My Photography Skills Around the Globe

Anyone that knows me is also aware that photography is my passion. Seems I have enjoyed the hobby all my adult life. I took a photography class in my senior year of high school that drew me in and there was no turning back. I do regret not focusing more on my passion in my earlier years, but life happens and priorities change. I am fortunate now to have the time to get back to what I love, and that my husband shares my passion.

On a recent trip to Italy with my husband we located a wonderful, local photographer that knew the area well. Nothing touristy about our arrangements, but crowds and souvenirs were not what we were looking for. We were there to get photos while chasing the best lighting and have fun. Our local photographer and guide showed us the best places and knew how to time the sessions for good lighting. We saw so much in such a short period of time. Lucky indeed that the weather cooperated with us for the time we visited Tuscany. We were up before the sun and out until sunset, and by the end of three days in the vineyards we were exhausted, but had an amazing time and we are now showered with so  many wonderful photos. It is hard to choose a favorite.

Photography is my gateway to adventure!

Where to go next? My daughter and I are planning an adventure to Tanzania this winter to go on Safari. I think a new camera may be in order... yes, this hobby can get a bit pricy, so I'm off to sell a few more houses this weekend!

We loved Tuscany also and so many phot opportunities abound there. My wife and i are considering renting in Tuscany in the next five years and spend two to three months exploring from there as a base.

Janis, I enjoyed your Tuscany photos you've posted recently.  I visited a lot of places in my Navy days, but didn't make it to Tuscany.  Perhaps some day I can check that off the list.  Bill

Janis, gosh you are so lucky to have that shared passion with your husband, so he totally gets your OBSESSION. I know that when I travel, if I am on a photographic expedition, it means lots of stopping and saying, OMG, look at that...and so it's fits and starts along the way. Yeah, I get a little crazy. Like Dick Greenberg  said, that is a great idea to go w/a seasoned photographer in the area. Tuscany to Tanzania, what a lucky woman! I love the curves and textures in this photo.

Congratulations! Your photos are beautiful!!! What type of camera do you use, if you don't mind my asking? And that's one of my favorite movies. :)
