Thankful For My Health!

Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

One of the more important things I’m thankful for is my present day health.    It’s especially important because I endured several years in the early 1990s when it wasn’t always the best.

After finally working through a number of diagnoses to find the cause, and remedy it, I set out to improve what had been lost.  Swimming is an important component to that quest.

I’m fortunate to live near to California Family Fitness, which has a great gym, and really nice swimming pools.

One winter evening while swimming laps, I noticed the pool looked something out of Dante's Inferno, or maybe a witch-and wizard's convention in Yellowstone Park.  The temperature of the air was much cooler than the 82° warmth of the pool.  And, it was generating mists swirling up into the air.  The only illumination came from below, from the underwater lights, and through the mists, it looked something like hell.  The swimmers struggled back and forth - often two in each lane, of the lap pool.  They were barely visible and gave the impression of tortured souls in purgatory - Flitting about from one group of tortured souls to another in their section of the pool.

And there I was with them - but with one very defining realization.  I was not in stress or pain, and as I looked downward in the pool, as I stroked through the water, the illumination of the lights, made me realize I was seeing a very bright and real light at the end of a tunnel.  And, it was all a journey to stress free health!

This month Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynolds) is hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge. This is Day 5.

Myrl Jeffcoat ~ hi Myrl... you and I must be channeling each other. I posted about being thankful for my good health a few days ago... and here you are writing about the same subject. You posted on being thankful for your pets and I read that post right after putting finishing touches to my post for being thankful for my 4-legged companions! Glad you found an exercise outlet that works for you. It really is important to do something you like. I'm like my cats--don't especially like getting into water, although I can swim well!

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat - I am so glad that you have found a remedy for your health. Swimming is a great stress reliever and you can tune out the distractions of the outside world which allows clear thought.  Fortunately you have a pool you can use year round. Something to be thankful for!

Myrl,  I know that feeling of fighting back to better health ... when the body is weak and/or the immune system compromised. Swimming is great exercise all the way around.  I'm so glad that you made your way back to good health. So many take their health for granted.

Swimming is something I wish I had the chance to do more often.  It is very calming.

We don't ever appreciate what good health means until we start to lose it.  Glad you are ok.

Swimming is so good for our health, I should probably do it, but all I do is hike and play tennis.

I'm glad your health is improving, Myrl. And I love your photo inserted into the pool and the story. It is very inspiring. But you would not catch me in the cold water of an indoor pool anytime soon. I'm lean more toward sitting in a jacuzzi with a glass of champagne than working out like that, which is why you will probably outlive me.
