Thankful Day 5 . . . . You Never Know

I was in my early 20’s that the time . . . . and I recognized that I needed to make a career change . . . . and I began the process to explore my options. At about the same time my wife and were in the process of purchased our first home.

My wife’s uncle Earl was in the real estate business . . . . and had spoken to him changing my career . . . . and wanting buy a home. He was giving me good advice in both areas.

On the home front my wife and I indentified where we wanted to buy

The first real estate agent that we worked with was not very professional . . . . he had us follow him around when he show up homes.

He service was poor . . . . and he never called us back.

We looked for another agent that would help us to buy a home. The second real estate agency was very professional and helped us buy our first home.

You might ask why we didn’t use my wife Earl to help us to buy the home  . . . . Where he worked was over 60 miles from where we purchased the home.

His advice and consul helped us make a good decision to buy our first home.

After we purchased the home we get into some in-depth discussions about the real estate business . . . .  What someone would have do to be successful in real estate.

Earl asked me what my goals were in real estate . . . . I replied to make more money . . . . He told that was not goal . . . . it’s a hope. Over the few months I worked Earl to define my goals  . . . . put them into writing and create a plan to achieve them with a time line.

5 months later I started my real estate on January 2th with written goals . . . . and a written action plan.

I’m so thankful to have met Earl . . . . and to have started my real estate career with goals and a road map. Earl’s guidance has helped me start my real estate career right . . . . and consul has helped me throughout my career . . . . and holds a very special place in my heart.

We never know when the right person will  step in to our life . . . . and impact it  beyond our wildest imagination. Earl did . . . . and my life changed forever.

Thank you, Debbie Reynolds for the 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge

What a great post, Lou. And what struck me so forcefully about your story was that I entered this profession at least partially because I had been a "victim" of bad brokerage servicing and felt I could run rings around 90% of the agents out there if I only just listened to people. You were so lucky to have a great mentor.

Good morning Lou,

Goals and a plan on how is the only way to go.

I should have listened to my first agent; it would now be 40 years but there were so many other jobs to try.

Make yourself an astonishing day.

Lou,  If only all aspiring new real estate agents had an Uncle Earl. Ideally that would be a managing broker yet we know that seldom happens.  You are right, we just never know the right person will step into our life.
