Expressions of Gratitude - Friendships that Survive Decades
The REAL Debbie Reynolds is hosting a 10-day Thanksgiving Post Challenge and for Day-7 of gratitude, I am thankful for friendships that last decades.
Old friends, young friends, they're all very special but, this post is about one group of friends that have cultivated a group friendship for over 2 decades! We all have different professions, all have very different husbands (who all get along wonderfully) and have never, not one time, fought with one another. One of my best friends I've ever had in the world, died several years ago of a brain aneurysm; she and I fought like sisters - about the MOST ridiculous things. Of course, I still loved her and miss her dearly but, we did disagree on several key issues in life!
Not this group! Long ago (over a couple of decades ago and I think about 4 houses ago!), I had a pool party at my house and these four girls met one another for the first time. That was the beginning of wonderful friendships.
We made a pact to always celebrate Christmas together at some point, every year. We've exchanged gifts with our children during our holiday gatherings and enjoyed every minute we are all together. Lately, it's just been the adults celebrating the holidays - we have an ornament exchange each year and the food...oh my gosh, the food!
These girls text me in the middle of the night when my hubby is in the hospital to check on us, bring us dinners and clothes when I had surgery (and didn't have button down shirts when I broke my arm!!), take care of our pets when I'm at the hospital with Ray, listened when I needed them, and played major roles in my wedding when Ray and I married 20+ years ago. We have survived birth, death of loved ones, hospitalizations, adoption, major illnesses, marriages and everything that life deals us. These girls (and their hubbies) have brought so much love and laughter into my (and my hubby's) life - I simply can't IMAGINE life without them!

On this day of gratitude, I am forever thankful for friendships that survive for decades and all that life brings!
