This Thanksgiving challenge we are to write a post a day for what we are thankful for.  I am thankful that the flood this past June did not damage our home. So many families lost their homes and loved ones.

I am thankful for all the good work The Greenbrier has done for the communities in southern West Virginia. Special thanks to Jim Justice the owner of The Greenbrier Resort located in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

The photo above depicts the flood waters at the Greenbrier; the one below is how it looked before the flood.

June flood in southern WVDue to the increased need for medical attention as a result of the flooding throughout Greenbrier County and beyond, The Greenbrier opened Greenbrier Care and The Greenbrier Clinic  for anybody who needed medical care.

The Greenbrier did not have hot water,  but the flood victims were provided a room, as well as food,

"We just hope that by providing a good meal and a comfortable and safe place to stay that we can help ease the pain just a little to those who are suffering so much from this unbelievable disaster," said Jim Justice.

For the past five or more years, The Greenbrier Resort  provides a “Create a Dream Tree for Kids” which donates over $1 million in toys and clothes to charity. Of the thousands of gifts, 80% will be toys and clothing for children and the remainder will be apparel for adults.  Below photos show only part of the wrapped presents.

Who wraps all these presents? The Greenbrier team members, Greenbrier guests volunteers, and the volunteers for the 100+ charities receiving the gifts  help wrap!

“Every child should have something to open on Christmas morning,” said Jim Justice, the Greenbrier owner. “I have been incredibly blessed in my life, but to me, the most important thing is giving back. Christmas is about giving and hope. We want these gifts to bring happiness and hope to those that need it most.”

Throughout the year, Jim Justice and The Greenbrier do so much for southern West Virginia and I am thankful for his big heart and all the good work The Greenbrier does for our communities in helping those in need in West Virginia.

That's an amazing story and your pictures really bring it home. The flood picture is so sad as compared to the one below it. Thanks so much for sharing. Greenbrier seems to be a very special place with a big heart for others! Happy Thanksgiving Roy!

I have been awarded points over the weekend but am still not receiving notifications on comments even though I am receiving other notifications.
