An Effortless Scrub Free Way To Clean The Stove and Oven

Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

The holidays are upon us! If you are hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas at your home, this cleaning tip is for you.

Whether you need to clean your stovetop prior to visitors coming, or you want to give it a good cleaning after all the holiday cooking, this is the easy way to do it.

Believe me when I say I've spent lots of wasted time over the years scrubbing various stoves. I wish I had known about this years ago!

I saw this tip on Pinterest for an effortless way to clean stovetop grates using ammonia, and figured I would give it a try.

I was very skeptical, but OMG the results were amazing!  Practically no scrubbing was needed at all....and the grates looked like new when I was done.  If only I had known about this sooner!

It's so EASY!

Place grates in zip lock bags.  Add 1/4 cup ammonia. Sit 12 hours.  (I let them sit overnight.)  Remove from bags and rinse clean.  Some wiping with sponge may be needed.

This technique can also be used for cleaning oven racks.  (place inside garbage bags and seal closed with duct tape)

Note: It's the ammonia fumes that do the trick, and only a small amount is needed.

If you use too much, it will not work.

Keep this tip in mind.....

When preparing your home for sale. Impress potential buyers with a "like new" stove!

Whenever you have a listing with an old stove in need of deep cleaning.

When you buy a new stove and want to prepare your old stove to sell.

Good Morning Sharon - very simple idea that I should have remembered.  My mother used to soak combs and brushes in ammonia and them came out sparkling.

Kathy Streib  Thank you for including my post! I hope it helps make the job easier for people!

Wayne Martin  I'm glad you are going to try it.  Worked great for me.

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386  We bought a new stove too....and it was an attempt to get the old one clean to sell it that made me give this a try. LOL

Sally K. & David L. Hanson  Your readers will love you for it!

Patricia Kennedy  My grates were the individual burner ones and fit inside a gallon size zip lock bag. They do make even bigger, extra large bags, but a trash bag works well too. You just have to be careful when you close it up with a twist tie to make sure you don't have a leak.

Patricia Feager  Good idea to keep in recipe file!

Kristin Johnston - REALTOR®  I'm glad she shared it. I had no idea until tonight. Nice surprise!

Jeff Dowler  I wasted far too much time on that old stove!

Will Hamm  Awesome. I am sure they will be grateful!

Brian Rugg  It could have saved me so much trouble and I would have had a much nicer looking stove!

Lyn Sims  That's where I found it.

Ginny Gorman  Awesome! Careful with the fumes....pretty strong!
