Can I Sell a House in Sacramento in December?

Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

We still sell houses in Sacramento in December, and it's much easier than, say, selling a home in Minneapolis in December. A little rain never hurt anybody, and temperatures are still mild in Sacramento. We have sunny days as well. When you live in a place where the weather is never all that dramatic, you can easily sell houses all year-round and people do.

In some situations, it is better to sell, say, a dowdy house in the winter, than in the spring when you're more likely to get buried under all of those more beautiful. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Houses in Sacramento Anytime of the Year.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents , In northern Indiana, we have cold and snowy Winters, but we still sell houses. We don't get the looky-loos, like in the mild weather.  The one's that look are the serious buyers.  The problem is convincing the sellers to list their homes during this time.

Larry Johnston Well, I am used to the snow in Minneapolis, and during the winter months, we still had sales. Just sales among people who really needed to sell and those who really needed to buy, and we don't see that kind of commitment during Sacramento winters.

Where I tend to part with other agent-driven agenda is I do support people who want to take their homes off the market during the holidays. There are not enough buyers to justify the hassle in most of those situations.

Hi Elizabeth - while the seasons don't have the same impact in our market when it comes to real estate, a home certainly has an excellent chance to make an impact when competition is less.  I like what you say about working with a client's schedule and suggesting the best strategy based on their timing.

Even with the snow we get in Northern VA, the winter market is still a good one to sell a home.  Fewer homes to compete with and intense emotional triggers to buy during the holidays, make this a very good time to list.
