Photography Contest - Real Life Places

 

Dick Greenberg has inspired us to share our best photos for his November 2016 Photography Contest.

 

This is my entry for the Real Life category in the travel/places subcategory.

 

Terramar Beach

 

Terramar Beach is one of the more beautiful beaches in Carlsbad where I live. Indeed it ranks right up for the many beaches I've been to in Southern California.

 

In addition to the beauty of this beach with the spectacular cliffs, it holds a special meaning for my wife and I as it's where our younger daughter got married about 3 years ago. It was a small wedding, with about 35 guests who braved their way down the concrete stairs and across sand to just the right place for the wedding. And it had to be planned so high tide was not occurring which would covered much of this gorgeous area.

 

I took this photo a few months ago when I was checking out the erosion which has changed the size and form of the beach, but Terramar remains a special place.

That is a beautiful place and if you hadn't told me I would never think in was in CA. It looks more like Canada to me.

Jeff, you have transported us to two very specific and very different locales. I think I am drawn to the second one, although it could be a toss-up. I am enjoying your comments by others whom I admire. It's fun to see their take on this. 

The clarity in both, from a photographer's eye is so perfect! Personally, as it's all about personal perspective, the second one draws my eye to the perspective, which is somewhat vast and I like that. I sometimes have a problem when people are in the photo (just a little quirk of mine)!

Jeff- as I mentioned in a comment on Ron and Alexandra Seigel's post, I am always amazed at the differences between your beach and the ones here in Florida.  I love the both photos.

Thanks so much Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905  What a nicecompliment. The photo at the very top is just a short distance from where I stood to take the main photo - same beach. I try to avoid people for the most part but every now and then they intrude, and sometimes there is that added visual interest. I don't spend much time planning photos - they tend to be very spontaneous, and sometimes it just works out well. Lucky me!

It's certainly true. I am so used to the hilliness and yet Florida tends to be so flat. Both add a visual interest from my viewpoint! And you have shared some truly wonderful beach and sunset photos!

You mentioned the erosion that has taken place at this beach, Jeff Dowler ... was it because of the recent storms?  Not sure what your beach looked like prior to the erosion .. but it sure is beautiful now.  I can see why you and your family is drawn to it ...
