Last Minute Shopping Applies To Homes Too!

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Elite 513.520.5305 SAL.2002007747

Tonight was stock up night at the local grocery store, gathering the ingredients for our Thanksgiving meal:  ham, pie fixings, stuffing ingredients, multiple types of potatoes for some scalloped potatoes and a few other items here and there.  For the most part everything on the list was on the shelves and ready.  Last year I made the mistake of looking for pecan halves just before Thanksgiving and that led to a mad scramble to find the last of them!

Obviously, it pays to get to the store early before the last minute shoppers hit the store!

Well the same thing applies to home shopping in more ways than one!

  • When considering new construction, the last buyers in get the "leftovers", the lots no one else wanted.  And the available floor plans might be limited too, as most builders don't want SAME-SAME next door to each other!
  • If you're renting and got a time line to buy a home, you need to consider that unless you're a cash buyer, if we go out TODAY and find THE ONE, you're still 30-45 days from closing under normal circumstances.  And that's assuming there's a home out there that will do.  If you're shopping, especially this time of year when inventory is tight, avoid the stress of last minute home shopping and give yourself plenty of time to find the right home!

And the last minute thing doesn't apply to just home buyers either!

  • For home sellers, get an early jump on preparing your home for sale, or your going to get stressed trying to make all the fixes we requested to get the best sales price for your home.  Besides, you know Murphy and if you wait to the last minute, THAT will be the day something totally unexpected happens!
  • Don't stall on starting your packing for the move either!  You have no idea how much stuff you have until you've got to get it all in boxes and on the moving van!

So avoid the last minute stress with your home activities!  And by the way, you might want to get to the grocery store ASAP before all the pecan halves are gone!!

BLiz,  the last minute run around for anything is not fun. Waiting in some cases may be "good deals" but generally not the "best deals."  Whatever the situation I am confident you can help any buyer or seller ... you just may not be able to find pecans!

BLiz- you are so right with this one.  Buying new home construction means you don't want to wait if you want a sought after lot or elevation.  And thank you for the reminder about the pecans.

Kathleen, In our local market inventory shrinks this time of year, so finding a good match may require digging into Expireds and other sources.  All the more reason for a buyer to get an early start so we have more time to find the best match.

Kathy, There were plenty of pecans on the shelves last night!  I'd be curious how it will look come Wednesday!

oh the last minute packing is the worst.  I just had sellers that were afraid to "jinx" so they refused to pack anything before the clear to close.  They did some mad packing over those last three days.
