Christmas Cactus

The house plants we have bring great joy. I have always loved having a nice selection of plants in the living room under the bay windows. Because we have  a large set of glass the plants area always happy. A simple pleasure.

In what seemed like almost over night our Christmas Cactus started to bloom. Every year we get this free gift that puts a smile on my face. I do not know if it is timing of the year or the lighting but every year some time between holidays these beautiful blooms come out to brighten up the room.

Does anyone else out there have a Christmas Cactus? If so share it with us. Regardless here is a photo I took of the Cactus and along with it I want to say this:

Peace and Love to you, your family and your loved ones. Please give thanks to the good things in life and enjoy yourself. Come together and enjoy this short week.

I love you all very much, you are my brothers and sisters and would do anything to help another person and hope that you think along the same lines.

Happy Thanksgiving and may your Christmas Cactus bloom!

Noah- I used to have a very large Christmas cactus, but gave it to a friend when we moved to VA.  I keep forgetting to replace it since we've moved back to Florida.  If memory serves... you need to make sure it doesn't get too much light at night when it's getting ready to bloom or something like that.

The blossoms on your Christmas Cactus are really beautiful, Noah!  So cheerful this time of year, when so many other things have ceased blooming.

Those are great looking plants!  My Mom loves having plants in her home also.  I don't have any plants in my home, other than a couple of fake ones, haha.

Hi Noah -- a nicely captured photo but the words are even nicer.  I'm glad to have "met" you even though it's only virtually so far.

Here is my Christmas cactus. We actually have two of them. I rescued these from a home I sold to a buyer in 2009, and they are still going strong today. They had been abandoned in a window ledge, left behind by the previous owners, and the buyers didn't want them. They thought they were dead, but they weren't. A little "cactus juice" helped them to recover.

Happy Thanksgiving, Noah.

Hi Noah - Nice! Christmas Cacti are wondeful plants - they sit there all year looking like they're on their last legs and then Boom!, all of a sudden they're gorgeous.

That's beautiful, Noah. I have two and they are both starting their winter blooms. Did you know you can force them to bloom during the summer? You can. Just water them. Put them in a cabinet where they won't see daylight for five or six weeks. Then pull them out of the cabinet. They will bloom.

I was given a Christmas cactus a couple of years ago by one of our Thanksgiving guests. She told me it was actually a Thanksgiving cactus and would bloom around Thanksgiving. She was right. Mine is in bloom too. She also told me there are two different kinds, one that blooms early like mine and those that bloom right around Christmas. I never researched and verified it. I call mine a Thanksgiving Cactus.

I was surprised to see this post show up this morning as a most popular post.

My Christmas cactus dropped its last flower yesterday. I've had it for 7 years now and it comes back stronger each year. A great gift to remind us that beauty and great things are around us always, we just need to keep our eyes open, be aware of our blessings and appreciate life.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.
