This time of year, it's common for my sellers to start asking the ever-controversial question, "Can I still decorate for the holidays?" And while many agents may have a differing opinion, my answer is always a resounding YES.
I let them know to keep it tasteful and maybe don't put out EVERYTHING. But there's a few reasons I love to encourage it if it's important to them:
- This will be their last holiday in this house. (Hopefully!) It's a great gift to give them this "one last time" trimming the tree or putting up lights.
- Buyers like it! I already have photos of the home sans holiday decor. So let the buyers see how fun the home can be! It helps give them a sense of the home's personality and to see themselves decorating it next year - especially if it is one of those houses that lends itself to gorgeous light or tree placement.
- It gives me a reason to do a little extra marketing. In my marketing, I am all about story telling. So when I have a seller who goes all out and does great holiday decorations, I head over and take some photos. Then I can use them for extra marketing. Usually I just post them to instagram or Facebook. But sometimes I will get inspired and use them for a video or postcard mailers.
Here's an example of a photo I took. I'm also submitting this as an entry for the Real Estate - Miscellaneous catergory in the ActiveRain 2016 Photography Contest.
This photo was taken at one of my luxury home listings in Paradise Valley, AZ. After the home owner decorated, I took some photos then put them together in a video that I sent out to my database in my enewsletter. (My brokerage information has changed, full disclosure!)
