What do you remember about your Thanksgiving?

I have to go back to growing up in Pennsylvania and remember going up to my parents cabin the night before Thanksgiving.  My parents own a restaurant for 38 years and only closed it on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Day.  My mom would make sure that we all had food that we love on Thanksgiving, so the food was lots and all my family and grand kids talk about it to this day.

Here is a list of most the food we would have:  Turkey, Ham, Chicken, Mash Potatoes, Pennsylvania Dutch Potatoes fillings, Oyster filling, Hamburger filling, Stuffing, corn, broccoli, green beans, lots of Cauliflowers, cheese gravy, turkey gravy, fresh bread and rolls.

Then the pies:  cherry, apple, mince meat, pumpkin.

Time to eat was 1:00 and we all the food would be be made fresh and ready.  After we where all finish eating she would make us go for a long walk to pick tea-berries that my dad could make wine the following week.

I miss her so much but have learn the joy of cooking and sharing with others.

Sounds like fond memories.

Having been in the food industry for quite a few years it was my job to cook the Holiday meals.

Now it is down to two people and go to friends for dessert and coffee.

Hi Will- reading your menu has made me hungry as well.  What I remember the most about our Thanksgivings were lots of friends and family, lots of food, including at least 5 different kinds of pies and playing some football in the front yard, then watching football.

Wonderful pies also come to mind for me. In the good old days, they used fresh coconut for the pies and cakes...wonderful.
