I'm thankful for the moment!
A couple of years ago at this time I discovered I had cancer. Initially the doctor was very laid back about it, being prostate cancer often it can be actively watched and there is no risk. However, my doctor had also done a genomic test and a couple of weeks after telling me to not worry, you are young, we can just watch this I got a call late one afternoon telling me he needed me to come back in and his office was calling to make an appointment. It seems the test showed this to be an agressive type of cancer with a higher than normal risk of extending beyond the prostate. It was a week to the appointment, on a Friday morning, the following Wednesday I was on the operating table. I am thankful to say the surgery was entirely succesful. I don't view myself as a survivor but as a victor.
But, I did a lot of thinking during that time and the recovery. It was a much heavier operation than I had thought it would be. And I became more aware of enjoying the moment. Yes, this moment, the one right now. Reading Active Rain. Enjoying the gently falling rain on my skin, smelling the roses, or the freshly cut grass, or the wood smoke. Whatever the moment is...today a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.
We never know what lies ahead. We can worry and stress about something, but if we are honest withourselves, much of what we worry or stress about, in five years or even one year we won't even remember.
So take a moment, sit back, breathe deeply, and just enjoy! Look around you, at those you love maybe, or at nature if you are out for a walk, if you are lining up for Black Friday shopping enjoy the ability to spend the money. We take so much for granted, don't enjoy it, be grateful. When you wake up in the morning and you can swing your feet out and touch them to the ground, you have much to be thankful for.
Life is good.
