Ahh, So Many Places To Photograph in Pasadena

Ahh, So Many Places To Photograph in Pasadena

I’m not a professional photographer.

And although I live in the shadow of Hollywood, I also do not play one on television or in the movies.

Any thoughts otherwise will soon be obvious.

But I do take lots of photos. With a simple Canon PowerShot camera.  Or more typically with my cell phone.  Quick.  Easy.

I feel fortunate to live, work and play in the Pasadena, California area.  This is an area rich in architectural diversity, beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods and incredible scenic vistas.  The photo opportunities are seemingly endless.  It is easy to see why Pasadena is such a popular choice for filmmakers and photographers.

This particular photo was taken a few years ago at Pasadena City Hall during the holiday season.   Pasadena City Hall, built in 1927, is a magnificent building designed by John Bakewell and Arthur Brown. You can read more about City Hall by clicking on the link.  I like how the ornament seems to shimmer on the tree with some of the building’s interesting architectural details in the background.

This is an entry in the Real Life category “Places” sub-category of The ActiveRain 2016 Photography Contest sponsored by Dick Greenberg and ably assisted by Judges:  Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905, Kathy Streib and Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington.

Michael, Love the shot!  And thanks to blogging I take way more photos than I used to, mostly with my phone since it's handy. Some turn out well, others....well at least I didn't have to pay to have them developed and printed!  Bill

Good Morning, Michael Jacobs - I'm not surprised by this photograph and content for this entry at all. In my opinion, one of your many gifts is your attention to detail. Therefore, when I read that the hall was built in 1927, who it was designed by, and its unique features, I could already tell you were writing because the description matches  your creative voice, which I believe is your signature writing style.

Michael, one of the markers of a photographic eye is seeing "same same" with an unusual and new perspective--which is what you created here. Not only do I love the jewell tones, but the shapes are what I find to be beautiful as well.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Ever since hearing about the Canon PowerShot from Dick Greenberg last year, I made my husband buy me one for Christmas, and I LOVE that camera. It's lightweight, easy to cart around, and I don't have to fuss with exchanging lens like my Nikon. It's like pennies compared to the Nikon, yet in many ways it is superior for my needs.
