“Kodak Moments" Are Plentiful in Pasadena

Even though the term is most often associated with a company, you have likely heard “Kodak Moments” to signify something rather special.  And memorable.  In life as well as in photography.

Pasadena, California has many qualifying “Kodak Moments” as far as I am concerned.  This very photogenic city has so much to offer but perhaps no such single event is as special as the annual Tournament of Roses Parade held each January.   This attention getting spectacle attracts hundreds of thousands of people along its five-and-one-half mile route which greets each new year with pageantry and panache.  Whether you view it in person or join millions of others watching in the glow of your television this event is a public relations bonanza to the city.

And, of course, the Rose Parade offers an abundance of photo opportunities with numerous events leading up to as well post-parade activities.  Over the years living in the area, I have taken countless photos during the construction of floats, the decorating phrase and even along the parade route in the chilly early hours prior to the parade start as the judges make their final decisions for awards. The Showcase of Floats offers an extra special and unique perspective.  After the conclusion of the parade, the floats are gathered near Victory Park so visitors can snap away pics with selfie sticks in hand and learn details of each float.

Now, it wasn’t easy choosing but the photo I selected is one I took this past January.  I think the image shows something unique to our country and with the palm trees in the background and the beautiful blue sky -- a bit of Pasadena too.

This is an entry in the Real Life category “Miscellaneous” sub-category of The ActiveRain 2016 Photography Contest sponsored by Dick Greenberg and ably assisted by Judges:  Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905, Kathy Streib and Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington.

Michael, I always knew where to find my mom on New Year's Day, smack dab in front of the TV drooling over all of the parades! This float--how in the world did they get those faces to look like stone?? Mindboggling. Love the angle, too!! And I do like the palm trees and patriotic blue skies as a Pasadena backdrop!

I love your "float" photos.  I am always amazed at the beautiful art they can create with flowers.  I can almost smell them from here.

What's up with the guy pointed upward in the photo?  lol
