"Oh Where Oh Where Did My Heavenly Hound Go?"
Three years ago I received a message from a gentleman through LinkedIn as follows: I was wondering if you knew where I could get a "Heavenly Hound" plush toy? My wife used to have one as a child and I want to get her one for Christmas. It was her absolute favorite and she lost it during one of her moves as a young girl. It would make her day if we could find one. I heard that there was a Korean manufacturer that was selling the toys under the same name but after weeks of searching I can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I replied to his request: Thanks for contacting me about Wee Win Toys ... specifically the Heavenly Hound, one of a complete line of Scripture Learning and character-building quality plush stuffed animals! My daughter had the same stuffed animal as a child and it was also one of her favorites. I wish I could tell you where to get one, as the line was discontinued over 30 years ago. At that time, I was the State Director for Wee Win Toys. I would be happy to post some messages on Facebook and other social media as well as contact some past clients to see if anyone still has one that they are willing to part with ... Do you want me to give it a try?
He said, "Yes!" Thank you Sooooooo! I would love it if you could do that for me. My wife would lose her mind if we could get her one. She said, if I remember correctly that she had a tan dog with a Mark 13: scripture on it. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up but just the thought of this is making my day! You are awesome for helping me like this. I don't have words to express my gratitude, and that's saying something for an aspiring writer.
So I started my search, high and low. I posted on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc., and sent a number of emails to friends who "might" have a Heavenly Hound from back when I was a State Director ... I also contacted both my kids who may still have one? In the meantime my husband lent a helping hand and went online including eBay ... and believe it or not ... We Found a Heavenly Hound!
I immediately sent the link to the eBay advertisement. He got back to me a few days later: You guys are the nicest people I've met in a long time! Seriously, its things like this that restore my faith in humanity from time to time. I purchased the Heavenly Hound from the eBay listing you sent me and I can not wait to give it to her! You and your husband are both wonderful for all the help! I really can't tell you how much this will mean to my wife. She always told me how much she loved that dog and how she would tell it all her secrets when she was a young girl. When she lost it she was absolutely devastated and to be able to get it (or at least one like it) for her will not only make her happy it will do the same for me because I love seeing her smile.
About a month later I received this message: I want to send you pictures of us and the dog. I had to give the dog to her a bit before Christmas because she needed a big pick me up. We're both going through some hard financial times - both of us lost our jobs earlier this year and we are struggling to find work right now. I do construction and it's crazy slow right now and will be till the middle of January. Anya works with kids but San Diego city schools lost their funding and had to shut down her "after school" program. Believing things will pick up soon.
She is ecstatic about the dog and that makes me happy too.
Anya is so happy she can't believe I found the dog. She thought I forgot about it and she is so thankful to you two for all the help.
The Pleasure was all mine! I appreciate being able to make your dream happen!
When you need a resource or referral ... I'm your gal.
