Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” (Lk. 12:15 NLT)
Then Jesus told them this parable…
“A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’
This is the story of how a rich man got richer.
You can almost hear the crowd feeling so sorry for this rich guy who gets richer.
Ohh whatever will he do know. His barns are full.
18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods.
Now think for a moment about how you feel when you find out a rich guy got richer.
That’s how the people who were listening to Jesus story felt as well. Many of them were envious, jealous or just frustrated by the story.
What makes it even worse is the Arrogance of this rich man. He goes on to say…
19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”
EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY…
He was saying…
I WILL SAVE IT NOW AND CONSUME IT LATER!
“If it came to me it must belong to me.”
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’
Who will get everything you worked for? The answer is
At the end of our days we leave behind the same thing! Rich or poor, famous or infamous. We leave behind
And Jesus closes the story with this analysis…
21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
Jesus is pointing out a powerful truth here. Did you see it.
Not only did this man lose ALL when he died he lost the opportunity to do GOOD with it while he was alive!
THIS LIFE is all we have to make an impact with what God has given to us.
When we die it’s ALL gone!
