Until a few years ago, Petworth was a sort of funky neighborhood. Most of the houses needed a lot of work, and it was off the beaten path in terms of getting around. But a new Metro station changed all that, and enough of the funky old places have been restored and renovated that it's become chic and trendy.
There are currently 38 homes for sale in Petworth, ranging in price from a low of $399,000 to a high of $847,000. The prices reflect -
- Location: closer to Metro tends to be more expensive that parts of the neighborhood close to Metro, with prices decreasing the further away you get.
- Property Condition: if a house has been renovated, it will carry a much higher price tag than an untouched granny house in need of a major facelift. And there are plenty of both.
- The block: is it mostly renovated? Or will you likely live with Porta Potties up and down the street for the next bunch of years?
- The quality of the renovation. Some are good. Some are not. Only a great home inspector can tell for sure.
