"Do not set goals based on what you want. Set goals based on who you want to become."
As we approach year end and think about the new year ahead, we naturally think of our hopes and dreams for the future. Those hopes and dreams become a reality through specific written goals.
There are thousands of articles on how to set goals, and I've written my share. Today, though, I'd just like to give you a few questions to contemplate in order to hone in on what is important, before you go about setting goals. If your purpose isn't clear enough, you will never have the disclpline to stick to and achieve your goals, no matter how detailed they are.
What is important in your life?
Who is important in your life?
Who do you want to become?
What gives you the greatest satisfaction in life?
How do you want to be remembered?
Each question could involve several answers. The more the merrier. When you can answer these questions, you can start to identify the meaningful goals that will lead you down the highway to a fulfilling life.
